Marco Wellisch – Biography

Marco Wellisch, born in Mainz, Germany, discovered his passion for music and DJing at an early age in a local youth center. Initially fascinated by breakdance, he soon found himself captivated by electronic sounds, inspired by Kraftwerk, N.W.A., 2 Live Crew, and the Neue Deutsche Welle. The beats of Grandmaster Flash, Man Parrish, Strafe, Planet Patrol, and Afrika Bambaataa shaped his early musical DNA.

By 1991, electronic music had become his true calling. His vinyl collection grew rapidly, and after his first private sets, he stepped into the club scene. Frankfurt’s legendary venues, Dorian Gray and Omen, left a lasting imprint on his style. In 1993 he became a resident DJ, and soon after performed across Germany, Ibiza, Holland, Japan, Switzerland, and the USA.

Throughout the 1990s, Marco collaborated with influential artists such as Ramin Naghachian and G-Man/RaDiac, launching projects and labels including ParaMeta, 12Zoll, and Neural Drift. His productions covered a wide spectrum – from electro and techno to progressive and psychedelic trance – with releases on labels such as Phobiq, OxyTech, Hushed, KlangWild, Universal Music, BMG, Spirit Zone, TIP Records, Plusquam, and Möhre Rekorder.

In the late 1990s he moved to Frankfurt, and in 2008 he relocated to Berlin, which remains his home base. There he founded KlangWild, first as an event agency and later, in 2012, as a label dedicated to electronic dance music. Over time, Marco developed new projects such as Aixo, SimN, Workn, and MarsMadeMan, and in 2023 he reactivated his earlier ElektroAssi project under the alias EA. In parallel, he launched Aqumn, a label dedicated to deep techno.

A milestone in his recent career came in May 2023, when one of his productions entered the Beatport Mainstage / PeakTime – Drive Newcomer Top 10, establishing him as a force on the global techno radar. Around the same time, Marco expanded his work as a ghost producer for internationally recognized DJs, further amplifying his influence behind the scenes.

Beyond club culture, Marco has explored cross-genre creativity. With BerlinReverb Records he continues to release cutting-edge electronic tracks, while under a confidential alias signed to Sony Music, he began releasing pop-oriented productions in 2024. This dual presence underlines his rare versatility: moving fluidly between underground credibility and mainstream innovation.

Today, Marco Wellisch stands as an artist who bridges eras and genres. Rooted in the heritage of German techno, shaped by decades of international touring, and constantly evolving through production, label work, and experimentation, he operates between progressive techno, tech house, and cinematic sound design. Whether on stage, in the studio, or behind the scenes, his work reflects an uncompromising dedication to electronic music and its ongoing transformation.
